Tour de Maurice

Just a short mention of the TCS team that did so incredibly well in Mauritius.

Willie took the yellow and blue jersey.  Barend won red jersey.
We won 2 stages.  Mornay got a second place on a stage.
And TCS took the best team classification for the tour.

Very well done!!!!!!

Bestmed Capital Classic

Our first “big” race for Pretoria in a while.

A coldish Autumn morning saw us line up for the start of the Bestmed Capital Classic.  The route was fairly boring heading out on the N14 highway towards Krugersdorp and back.

In the end everyone enjoyed a day out on the bike.  Andre finished an impressive 16th overall, coming in with the main Elite bunch in a time of 2:20

Philip and Jaco Engelbrecht finished in the Vets bunch with Philip getting 5th (2:28) and Jaco  18th (2:33)

Ronet and Renate raced Ladies for the day.
Congratulations to Ronet getting 8th overall in a time of 2:54
Renate finished 19th in a time of 3:09

Jaco and Ilé took on the tandem.  Great result for them with 3rd mixed tandem!

Well done to all!!!!!

Panorama 2015

So I returned to the Panorama after an absence of 8 years.

The event surely has grown.  I can still remember the great vibe back then and this also was still present in 2015.

What makes the Lowveld so amazing and unforgiving is the fact that there are not flat roads.  You are either going up or you are going down.
The 2015 tour was no exception. We totalled over 5000m accent over the 4 days!

The racing up front for the top 5 positions was pretty intense from what I understood.  Only on the last day the battle was won by Nico Bell and his partner.  A very well deserved win and breaking the TT course record to boot!  Just WOW!
As part of the “fun-rider” squat we had a look at our watts for direction and we kept the Norm Power at 341 for the hour.  Total time was 1:02:43.  Nico and partner rode no less than 5 minutes into us.  That is DAYLIGHT right there.  Huge congrats to them.

Jaco from TCS took a well deserved win in the Sub-Vets category.  Well done!

To all who finished, a big congratulations all around.

So with this we enter the final month of    Autumn.  The mornings are getting darker and colder.
Be safe out there and enjoy every pedal!

Everesting Pretoria

So I decided to do this Everesting thing…… Started 12:15 on Saturday morning.  Perfect weather. There is a small climb near my house which I chose to do it on.  It helps if something happens i.e. technical or puncture or helps with the rest periods and food. Also, peeing in someone’s garden at 2am normally is not an issue and only you know about it.  Doing it at 2pm…..people tend to point and laugh and draw guns and stuff.

I wanted to do it in a day’s time.  24 hours. This hill was as close as it was going to get with a total accent of 47m according to Strava (little more on the Garmin) and a distance of around 800m. Long story short, took me 18 hours 40 minutes to complete my challenge (15:10 riding time) Total accent of 9000m reached.

My Strava File:  https://app.strava.com/activities/283650609
Ave Watts:  165
NP:  227
Distance:  308km
Time:  18:40:45
Accent:  9259 (Garmin/TP calc)
TSS:  818

Nou ja…..on the Hells500 Wall of Fame so I am happy….

Nutrition wise, I have done a bottle of water and a bottle of USN Epic pro every 3-4 hours.
Eggs on toast 5am, Noodles 1pm , Protein shake 12pm
I should have eaten something with substance at around 4pm but I was so tired and did not think about food in any way. Introduced a coke and a chocolate at 5pm and my wheels came off.  Nauseous and just feeling very bad in general.  Pushed through but it was a stupid mistake.

Bike behaved very well. Cannondale, Campy, Campy wheel set.  The Stages power meter did not hick-up once. Punctured at 1am. I charged my Garmin 1000 with a Amped charger – It was able to charge 20% for 15min plugged in when I stopped for food and the best was it did not switch off when I plugged it in which is one of the requirements to complete the challenge. Also very important was the pants. .  No issues with my Assos S7 bib.  It was worth every cent.  No saddle sores.  No chafing, nothing.

Gauteng Provincial Track championships 2015

The past weekend Gauteng Provincial Track championships took place at Hector Norris Park in Johannesburg and TCS made their presence known in all the events with Ilze Bole dominating the woman’s races.

In the scratch race, where the   aim was to be the first over the line on the last lap of the 10km race, Ilze Bole took top honours and Ronet Human, who has just started racing on the track rounded of the podium with a 3rd in what was her second ever scratch race.
In the Keirin race, where the cyclists gets a lead out from a motorbike for a certain amount of laps, ends in a full on sprint for the line where Ronet again made it onto the podium to secure another third place.

The points race was very exciting to watch as the woman battled it out to try and get the most points on every sprint lap which was every 5th lap. Tactics played a huge part in the end with Ilze, again taking the victory and Ronet narrowly missing out on a podium spot.

Ilna Lemmer and her team mates set a new national record in the team pursuit master ladies category.^013F3AA90414686B5ED2FB353A05BC98DA0E5F21ADFFD57150^pimgpsh_fullsize_distr
